Which Section of the existing NHS Pension Scheme are you in? Are you in the 1995 Section? The 2008 Section? Or both?
The 1995 Section closed to new members with effect from 1st April 2008. Therefore if you joined working for the NHS before that date - then you would have automatically been enrolled in the 1995 Section and will automatically have remained in this Section.
You may still be in the 1995 Section if you have previously contributed to it and re-join it after 1st April 2008 if you were a deferred member who re-joined the NHS Scheme after 1st October 2008 within 5 years of you leaving and you are still under 60 on re-joining.
If you joined the NHS after 1st April 2008 you will automatically have been enrolled in the 2008 Section.
Choice One Exercise
In the Choice One exercise 3 years ago - the choice was given whether to move all of your 1995 Section benefits to the 2008 Section. The default option for those in the 1995 Section was to stay in the 1995 Section. Therefore if you did nothing at all during 'Choice One' then you will still be in the 1995 Section. Obviously if you decided at that time to switch your NHS pension benefits to the 2008 Section then you will now be in the 2008 Section of the NHS Pension Scheme.
