Choice Two is another opportunity for doctors to consider whether it would be beneficial to transfer their 1995 Section benefits to the 2008 Section.
The reason for this new opportunity is that the new 2015 NHS Pension Scheme coming in next year will have a normal retirement date linked to the State Pension Age. Therefore for doctors moving into the 2015 Scheme their new normal retirement date will be much later than originally planned. If doctors are considering working on to state pension age it maybe better to move their 1995 pension rights (normal retirement age 60) to the 2008 scheme (normal retirement age 65).
This Autumn, you will start receiving packs with information regarding your new Choice. It is really important to consider this information carefully, to consider all aspects of your financial planning - and take advice. This is a pivotal moment in your retirement planning!
There are many other issues to discuss, not just retirement dates. There are many other fundamental differences between the 1995 Section and the 2008 Section which need to be taken into account.
