Permanent ill health
Today we will look at the implications of ill health and family benefits avaliable for Bristol doctors. The 2015 NHS Pension Scheme has excellent benefits for those who are unable to work due to permanent illness.
For those who are unable to work due to permanent ill health, you may be able to take your benefits early. To qualify for this you need:
If you meet the Tier 1 definition you will receive your pension without any reduction.
If you meet the Tier 2 definition you will entitled to the Tier 1 pension, with an additional pro rata enhancement based on 1/2 of prospective pension to Normal Pension Age.
Should you return to work after retiring early due to ill health, then your benefits may be reduced or stopped.
Terminal ill health
If you are terminally ill you be able to take a serious ill health lump sum this will not be tested against the Annual Allowance. However a 45% charge may apply if you are over the age of 75.
