Your service for NHS Pension purposes continues throughout maternity or paternity leave.
- You can continue to pay NHS Pension Scheme contributions regardless of whether the leave is paid or unpaid.
- Your pension contributions will be based on the amount of pay you receive durig leave (if you decide to go on to unpaid leave the pension contributions will be based upon the pay you were receiving before no pay commenced).
- Added Years and Additional Pension contracts continue to be payable at the normal rate.
- If you cannot afford your pension contributions during your time of leave any arrears can be collected within a 'reasonable time' once you return to work.
