Choice Two is another opportunity to move your 1995 NHS Pension Scheme rights to the 2008 Section. This decision entirely depends upon your individual situation and requires thought and deliberation and a complete review of your personal circumstances.
Please get in touch on firstname.lastname@example.org or 0117 966 5699 for a review of your situation.
What Is Choice Two?
Due to the new 2015 NHS Pension Scheme coming in next year and having a Normal Pension Age (NPA) linked to the State Pension Age it has been decided that members of the 1995 Section who are automatically being moved to the 2015 Scheme should have another opportunity to decide whether they want to move their 1995 Section rights to the 2008 Section.
This maybe advantageous to members who intend to work closer to their new NPA because the 2008 Section has a higher accrual rate and in addition retirement benefits can be enhanced because of late retirement factors.
Which Members Are Affected?
The Choice 2 exercise is available to 1995 members who do not have full protection under the 2015 NHS Pension Scheme Arrangements. If you have 'tapered' protection you will still be eligible for the Choice 2 exercise.
What Members Need To Do
Eligible members will soon be receiving a Choice 2 letter together with an information pack (in a similar way to the original Choice exercise). Doctors need to read the information carefully, take advice where appropriate and consider their individual retirement plans.
For doctors wishing to move to the 2008 Section there will be an online application available.
For doctors wishing to stay in the 1995 Section there is no need to do anything - they will stay in the 1995 Section by default.
What Is The Deadline For Responses
Monday 16th March 2015.
Please remember that whatever decision you make - it cannot be changed!
